Irish Heritage

With a name like Brendan it is no surprise that I am of Irish heritage. My mother was full-blooded Irish, my father half Irish and half English. My mother came from the tiny village of Shanballyhue near Newport in County Mayo. My father’s mother was from another tiny village called Lisadaly in County Roscommon.

My parents immigrated to Canada when I was two years old. Like many immigrant families my extended family was in the “old” country. My grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins were all in Ireland and England.

Ireland is a magical place. It has thousands of years of history, steeped in mysticism and more recently in revolution. This gallery draws from hundreds, if not thousands, of photographs I have taken in Ireland over 3 decades.
